Lane Control Is the Skill Nobody Teaches You

Lane Control Is the Skill Nobody Teaches You

Every tower defence guide starts with which turret to build. That's backwards. In games that let you shape enemy paths, the map itself is your strongest weapon, and towers are just the payoff. The principle is length. The longer you force enemies to travel inside your firing range, the more damage they soak before reaching your base. A tight spiral of walls can be worth more than a dozen extra turrets. In Ironline Defenders I win hard maps by building the maze first and the towers second. Once I know exactly where enemies will crawl, placing turrets becomes obvious — you just line them along the longest stretch. Watch out for flying units, though. They ignore your carefully built maze and go straight for the base, so always keep a couple of anti-air positions near the exit. Nothing feels worse than a perfect ground defence collapsing to a single air wave. Start thinking of the map as clay, not a fixed board. It changes how you read every level.
